It may be helpful for individuals who:

  • Feel overwhelmed, emotionally distressed, anxious, low in mood, or emotionally dysregulated
  • Experience difficulties with emotional regulation, coping skills, or stress management
  • Face behavioural challenges, attention difficulties, or impulse control concerns
  • Struggle with self-esteem, identity, or interpersonal relationships
  • Experience life transitions, academic or work-related stress, burnout, or adjustment difficulties
  • Have a neurodevelopmental condition (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD) and require support with emotional, behavioural, or adaptive functioning
  • Have a history of trauma, loss, or adverse experiences and wish to process these safely
  • Require psychological assessment, clarification, or professional recommendations to guide intervention, education planning, or daily support

This service is also suitable for:

  • Parents or caregivers seeking professional guidance to better understand and support their child’s emotional, behavioural, or developmental needs
  • Individuals who wish to gain greater self-understanding, improve emotional balance, and develop healthier coping strategies—even if difficulties feel “manageable” but persistent

If you are unsure whether your concerns are “serious enough,” you are welcome to reach out. Support is not only for crises—it is also for prevention, growth, and long-term psychological well-being.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST CONSULTATION

A consultation provides a safe, confidential space to explore your concerns and understand how they affect your daily life.

  • First session: We get to know you, your history, and your goals, and discuss what you hope to achieve through support.
  • Assessment: We may use interviews, questionnaires, or observations to understand patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviour.
  • Ongoing sessions: Together, we work on practical coping strategies, emotional regulation, and personal growth, tailored to your needs.

Therapy is a collaborative process—you set the pace, and progress is regularly reviewed to ensure the approach works for you.

WHAT YOU MAY GAIN FROM A SESSION?

Every session is unique, but clients and families often experience:

  • Greater understanding of thoughts, emotions, and behaviours
  • Practical strategies to manage stress, cope with challenges, and support personal growth
  • Guidance for next steps, tailored to individual or family needs
  • A safe, collaborative space to reflect, process, and feel supported

Progress builds over time, and sessions are designed to help you or your child develop skills, insights, and confidence that can be applied in daily life.

DO YOU NEED AN ONGOING SESSIONS?

The number of sessions needed varies depending on your goals and the nature of your concerns.

  • Short-term support: Some clients may benefit from 3–5 sessions to gain insight and learn practical strategies.
  • Ongoing support: Others may benefit from weekly or biweekly sessions over several months to address more complex or persistent challenges.

The psychologist will work with you to develop a plan that fits your needs, regularly reviewing progress and adjusting the frequency of sessions as appropriate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

❓ Do I need a diagnosis before seeing a psychologist?
No. Many people seek support because they are unsure what’s going on. The consultation helps clarify concerns and next steps.

❓ What if I (or the person I support) feel shy, struggle to talk, or become emotional?
That is very common. Our psychologists are trained to work gently and at a pace that feels comfortable.

❓ Can a support person be present during the session?
Yes. A partner, parent, carer, or other support person can be involved if helpful, especially for those who feel more comfortable with someone present.

❓ How many sessions are usually needed?
It depends on the concern. Some people need only one session, while others may benefit from short-term support.

❓ Is this suitable for young children or early concerns?
Yes. Early emotional and behavioural support can be very helpful at any stage of life.
